Tinubu Commissions 40,000 CBM LPG Vessel “MT Iyaloja (Lagos)” In South Korea

WAGL’s Managing Director, Mohammed Bello, revealed plans to expand the fleet within the next two years with the addition of a Small Gas Carrier and a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC).

President Tinubu has commissions 40,000 CBM LPG Vessel “MT Iyaloja (Lagos)” in South Korea.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu has commissioned a 40,000 cubic meters (CBM) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) carrier, “MT Iyaloja (Lagos),” in Ulsan, South Korea, to boost gas availability and affordability in Nigeria and across Africa.

The vessel, owned by WAGL Energy Limited a joint venture between NNPC Limited and Sahara Group is a dual-fuel, fully refrigerated LPG carrier. With its addition, WAGL’s total LPG fleet capacity now stands at 162,000 CBM, alongside MT Africa Gas, MT Sahara Gas, MT BaruMK, and MT Sapet.

Represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, President Tinubu commended NNPC Ltd. and Sahara Group for their foresight, technical expertise, and commitment to expanding Africa’s participation in the global clean energy value chain.

Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Bashir Ojulari, represented by EVP Gas, Power and New Energy, Olalekan Ogunleye, described the new vessel as critical to Nigeria’s gas development agenda, noting that NNPC is committed to making LPG affordable and accessible nationwide.

WAGL’s Chairman/Executive Director at Sahara Group, Temitope Shonubi, said the MT Iyaloja (Lagos) symbolizes progress and empowerment, paying tribute to the late Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, mother of President Tinubu, after whom the vessel was named.

WAGL’s Managing Director, Mohammed Bello, revealed plans to expand the fleet within the next two years with the addition of a Small Gas Carrier and a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC).

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by Alhaja Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria and granddaughter of Alhaja Mogaji.
