September 2024 Public Holidays in Nigeria can be accessed below.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria understands that aside from marking important celebrations, public holidays allow Nigerians to unwind and relax while taking a break from work.

 

The federal government of Nigeria will declare one day as a public holiday in commemoration of the Eid-ul-Maulud celebration.

Nigeria will observe some notable public holidays in September 2024:

 

1. Eid-ul-Maulud: The federal government will declare September 16, 2024, as a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Maulud. This day marks the birth of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, observed during the month of Rabi’ al-Awwal in the Islamic calendar. Schools and businesses will close, allowing for community gatherings and educational events focused on the prophet’s teachings.

 

2. Edo State Governorship Election: The gubernatorial election in Edo State is set for September 21, 2024. To facilitate voter participation, Governor Godwin Obaseki will likely declare September 20, 2024, as a public holiday, providing government employees with time to travel to their voting locations. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported that a significant number of new Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) have already been collected, indicating strong voter engagement.

 

3. Anambra Local Government Election: Anambra State will hold its local government elections on September 28, 2024. This marks the first local council election in the state in a decade. Governor Charles Soludo’s administration is preparing for the elections, and a public holiday is expected to be announced to encourage voter participation.

October 1, Nigeria Independence Day: This is a day mapped out by the Government to celebrate the day Nigeria got its independence from Britain as a country.

 

December 25, Christmas Day: This is a day mapped out for Christian faithfuls to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

 

December 26, Boxing Day: This is a holiday celebrated after Christmas day.
