NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has spoken on reports that he accepted to implement the peace deal initiated by President Bola Tinubu out of fear.
This Nigeria news platform understands that Fubara who has been having political clashes with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, emphasized that the decisions made by his administration during the political crisis were driven by a commitment to peace rather than fear.
Speaking at the maiden state banquet in Government House Port Harcourt to celebrate the new year, Governor Fubara extended New Year wishes to the people of Rivers.
He urged the citizens to embrace the ongoing peace process initiated by President Tinubu, emphasizing that his administration would avoid getting entangled in political conflicts that could hinder the state’s development prospects.
“Every decision that we’ve taken is not born out of fear but because we have the interest of our people and we have respect for elders. I’m appealing to everyone of us to embrace the peace. We need this peace because our intention for the state is not for our personal interest but that of the development of the state.”
Governor Fubara reiterated his administration’s commitment to establishing a legacy of unity and development in Rivers State, emphasizing a focus on progress rather than political tension.
In his welcome address, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Wenike Danagogo, expressed gratitude for Governor Fubara’s dedication to dispensing the dividends of democracy despite political challenges. He described the governor as “calculated, humble, honest, and hardworking,” urging the people of Rivers to promote peace, truth, and justice for the continued greatness of the state.
