Reps Deputy Spokesperson has dismissed alleged rift with Speaker Abbas.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has dismissed reports suggesting that lawmakers are planning a showdown with Speaker Abbas Tajudeen when plenary resumes, describing the claims as speculative and aimed at sowing division.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Agbese, who represents Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said members’ confidence in Speaker Abbas remains “unshakable and non-negotiable.”

“Since his emergence, the Speaker has shown fairness, inclusiveness, and commitment to the welfare of members across party lines. He has carried everyone along in line with the ‘People’s House’ mantra,” Agbese stated.

On alleged grievances over National Assembly staff recruitment, Agbese clarified that the process was conducted by the National Assembly Service Commission an independent body and not by the Speaker or House leadership.

He noted that Abbas has already set up two special committees, led by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and former Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, to address concerns raised by members.

Highlighting the Speaker’s leadership style, Agbese praised Abbas for decentralising committees to widen oversight, prioritising members’ welfare, and making personal sacrifices for inclusiveness.

“The Speaker is completely accessible, working round the clock to address members’ concerns. He has proven to be the best so far in stabilising the House and ensuring loyalty to the party while pushing for national progress,” Agbese said.

He assured Nigerians that when the House reconvenes on September 23, it will focus on critical national issues such as constitutional amendment, insecurity, economic reforms, and budget implementation.

Agbese urged the media to avoid unverified reports capable of straining the cordial relationship in the Green Chamber, stressing that the 10th House under Abbas remains united and committed to delivering people-centred legislation.
