NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the federal government, through the Ministry of Interior, declares certain days as public holidays, which means that schools, businesses, banks, and government offices will be closed on these days.

 

In line with this, Monday, January 2 will be a public holiday in Nigeria as it is the day after New Year’s Day.

There are at least 16 other public holidays that Nigerians can look forward to in 2023.

• Friday, April 7 – Good Friday, which is a Christian holiday that marks the day of Jesus’ crucifixion

• Monday, April 10 – Easter, which is the Monday following Easter Sunday

• Saturday, April 22 – Eid-el Filtri, which is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of the month of Ramadan

• Sunday, April 23- Eid-el Filtri

• Monday, May 1 – Labour Day/Workers’ Day, which is celebrated on May 1 to honor the contributions and achievements of workers

• May 27 – Children’s Day (Public Holiday for Schools and Children only), which is celebrated on May 27 to recognize the rights and well-being of children

• Monday, June 12 – Democracy Day, which is celebrated on June 12 to mark the restoration of democracy in Nigeria.

• Thursday, June 29 – Eid el Kabir

• Friday, June 30 – Eid el Kabir

• Wednesday, September 27 – Eid el Maulud

• Sunday, October 1 – Independence Day (National Day)

• Monday, October 2 -Holiday (Because Independence Day falls on Sunday), Independence Day, which is celebrated on October 1 to mark Nigeria’s independence from British colonial rule

• Monday, December 25 – Christmas Day, which is celebrated on December 25 to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ

• Tuesday, December 26 – Boxing Day, which is a public holiday in Nigeria that is celebrated on December 26
