Political thugs have attacked Wike loyalists’ PDP Congresses in Oyo, several injured and vehicles vandalised.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that suspected political thugs have reportedly attacked the local government congresses organized by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Oyo State.

The incident occurred on Saturday during the party’s local government congresses held across parts of the state.

Reports indicate that the PDP in Oyo State is currently divided into two factions—one aligned with Nyesom Wike, while the other is loyal to the state governor, Seyi Makinde.

The congresses organized by the Wike-aligned faction were ongoing when hoodlums suspected to be political thugs disrupted the process, attacking members and causing panic at several venues.

Sources revealed that about 10 people were assaulted, while several vehicles were vandalised during the attacks.

Chairman of the faction loyal to Wike, Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, confirmed the development in a telephone conversation on Saturday afternoon.

According to him, the attacks were recorded in multiple local government areas, including Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Ibarapa Central (Igboora), and Akinyele.

“Our local government congresses were attacked across Oyo State — Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Igboora (Ibarapa Central), and Akinyele,” Akinoso said.

He further disclosed that three vehicles were vandalised at Gbolarumi House, Are Avenue, Bodija in Ibadan North, adding that around 10 party members were attacked across the state during the disruption.

The incident highlights the growing internal tension within the PDP in Oyo State as rival factions continue to battle for control of the party structure.
