Police have arrested 130 Nigerian, Chinese and Malaysian Nationals for cybercrime.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Police Force, on Saturday, arrested 17 Nigerians and 113 foreign nationals for alleged cybercrime in the Federal Capital Territory.

This Nigeria news platform understands that the Force’s public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Sunday, said the foreign nationals, who are from China and Malaysia, along with their Nigerian cohorts, were arrested during a raid in Jahi.

Mr Adejobi wrote, “The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 130 suspects comprising 113 foreign nationals (87 males and 26 females), primarily of Chinese and Malaysian origin, and their 17 Nigerian collaborators (4 males and 13 females).”

The police spokesperson said the nabbed suspects were allegedly involved “in high-level cybercrimes, hacking, and activities that threaten national security.”

“This strategic operation was conducted through a coordinated raid on a building at the Next Cash and Carry area of Jahi, Abuja, where the suspects were reportedly using computers and other sophisticated devices to facilitate criminal activities.”

He said the operation, led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, Benneth Igweh, comprised officers from the Zone 7 Command, Abuja, and the National Cybercrime Centre.

Mr Adejobi said the investigation is ongoing while exhibits recovered from the suspects are being scientifically analysed.

He said the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation, assuring that the outcome will be made public.
