Peter Obi has stepped up political consultations ahead of 2027 Presidential Race.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has intensified high-level consultations with political figures as he prepares for another bid in the 2027 general election.

An official announcement on the political platform he will run under is expected in November 2025.

Recall that Obi recently met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, urging him not to join the 2027 race while seeking his endorsement. Sources also confirmed that Obi later briefed ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo on the meeting and requested his continued support.

A senior member of Obi’s camp revealed:

“His meeting with Jonathan was to persuade him to step aside and back his ambition. He sees Jonathan’s support as a major boost. Afterwards, he met Obasanjo to deepen consultations.”

The insider added that Obi’s November declaration will clarify whether he will remain with the Labour Party or align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a platform that some of his supporters have already embraced.

Further consultations are also being planned with prominent former leaders and traditional rulers. According to another source, Obi is expected to meet General Ibrahim Babangida, General T.Y. Danjuma, General Yakubu Gowon, and General Abdulsalami Abubakar in the coming weeks.

Obidient Movement Speaks

Reacting to Obi’s activities, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, described the meetings as “friendly consultations” among statesmen.

“Obi remains a member of the Labour Party for now. Any decision regarding his platform will be announced in November after due consultations,” Tanko explained.

He urged supporters to stay mobilized:

“Our focus remains on Obi’s vision for Nigeria—lifting people out of poverty, improving security, health, and the economy. That’s what we are working on.”

APC Reacts

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed Obi’s latest moves.

The party’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, said Nigerians were satisfied with President Bola Tinubu’s performance and insisted Obi’s consultations would not change his fate in 2027.

“There is nothing new Obi is doing that he didn’t do in 2023 when he lost,” Ibrahim stated.

“All these leaders he is consulting, he has met before. He was defeated then, and we are confident he will be defeated again. The indices show our party is delivering, and we will continue until Nigerians’ hope is fully renewed.”
