One-term limit and sever ties with political allies among other details of Fubara’s peace path with Wike has emerged.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubuhad last week settled the rift between the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and his estrange political godfather, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Fubara had hinted that while the conditions for the peace were painful, the peace was necessary for Rivers State.

According to Western Post, one of the agreements reached for peace to return to the state is that Fubara will only serve one term in office.

President Tinubu also agreed to lift the state of emergency slammed on the stated under which the governor and the state House of Assembly were suspended. This will facilitate the return of Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, back to office.

“But he will only complete the remainder of his tenure, as he will be limited to one term in office,” one associate of Fubara told the aforementioned publication.

As part of the agreement, Governor Fubara was also asked to distance himself from associates who allegedly encouraged him to openly disagree with Wike, leading to a protracted leadership crisis.

Those associates include former Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Austin Opara, Senator Lee Meeba, among others.

In exchange, the state House of Assembly loyal to Wike has also been directed to allow the governor to rule without interference and obstacles. They were also directed to back off from moves to impeach Fubara or his deputy.

Despite the stringent nature of the conditions for lasting peace, Fubara described the truce as a divine intervention.

He promised to devote his energy to sustaining peace in the state and has urged his supporters to follow suit.

Recall that Fubara fell out with Wike following the struggle for the control of political structures in the oil-rich state.

The crisis which paralysed the smooth running of government, degenerated into violence with the state on the brink of a breakdown of law and order, prompting President Bola Tinubu to step in and declare a state of emergency on March 18 this year. Retired Naval Chief Ibok-Ette Ibas was subsequently appointed as sole administrator to bring back normalcy.
