1. Chief Mujidat Folashade Tinubu Ojo, a daughter of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to support and pray for her father to succeed in leading the country to the promised land. She made the plea on Saturday in Abuja.
2. Banks in satellite towns of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Saturday, opened for business as directed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Journalists who monitored some banks in the Territory, report that huge crowds of customers were seen at banks’ Automated Teller Machines (ATM) galleries.
3. The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a pastor, Kayode Salami, after a woman was found dead in his church in Idanre, in Idanre Local Government Area of the state. The deceased, Adejoke Oloje, who had an 11-month-old child, was said to be a member of the church and had been living on its premises since January 2023.
4. The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that its chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu does not own the property destroyed in Bauchi State. This was made known in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, on Saturday. Oyekanmi was reacting to a viral video where a property claimed to be owned by Mahmood was destroyed.
5. A Labour Party governorship aspirant in the forthcoming governorship primary holding in Imo State, Humphrey Anumudu, has been found dead in his house. Anumudu was reported dead in his Lagos home after returning from a meeting at the LP secretariat in Abuja.
6. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed March 29, March 30 and March 31 to issue Certificates of Return to Governors-elect. The commission took the decision following a meeting on March 25, 2023, which is one week after the gubernatorial elections were conducted around the country.
7. President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has raised the alarm over alleged plots by some aggrieved partisan politicians to truncate the transition process, particularly his expected swearing-in on May 29. Tinubu, in a statement by his Director, Public Affairs, Mr Festus Keyamo also warned the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, and that of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi, against taking to the streets while also pursuing their cases in court.
8. Men of Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 43-year-old man, Abiodun Oladapo, for allegedly impregnating his 19-year-old daughter (name withheld). The command spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement, said the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at Mowe divisional headquarters by one Oluwatoyin Idowu.
9. President Muhammadu Buhari has tasked academics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and other tertiary institutions in the country to embark on innovative research that would help boost production and diversify the country’s economy. Buhari, who is the Visitor to the UNN, made the charge in Nsukka yesterday during the 50th Convocation of the university.
10. Abia State House of Assembly has denied rumours making the rounds that there were plans to impeach Governor Okezie Ikpeazu from office. Rumours had it that the majority of the House members, especially those from Abia Central and Abia South, have concluded plans to impeach Ikpeazu who has barely two months to leave office.
