1. Oil marketers, on Tuesday, countered the position of the Federal Government, as they insisted that the current pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, should not be less than N800/litre if there was no subsidy on the commodity. They lambasted the NNPCL boss for coming out to state that the government was not subsidising PMS, as they explained why subsidy on PMS had returned.

2. A Nigerian Army special court martial sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, convicted a former Group Managing Director, Nigerian Army Properties Limited, Maj. Gen. Umaru Mohammed and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment. The military court also ordered Mohammed to pay back $2,178,900 (When converted to naira (at N1000 per dollar), $2.1m equaled N2.1bn. The total amount when added to N1.6bn was N3.7bn) and N1.65bn to the Army properties and NAPL.

3. The Independent National Electoral Commission says over 5.4 million voters registered to cast their ballots in the November 11 governorship elections in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states. INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

4. Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo, on Tuesday, insisted that the All Progressives Grand Alliance would reclaim Imo State in the November 11, 2023 governorship election. Soludo disclosed this while receiving the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Tony Ejiogu, at the Anambra State Government House in Awka.

5. Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has explained that he used the name ‘Sadiq Abubakar’ to sit for his final Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE). Atiku made the clarification on Tuesday in the wake of alleged discrepancies trailing his SSCE bearing ‘Sadiq Abubakar’ as against his other credentials.

6. Israeli ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has said Nigerians in the country, as well as citizens of other countries are safe. Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Freeman described Saturday’s attack by Hamas, where almost a thousand people died in less than 24 hours, as the gravest since the Holocaust.

7. Federal Government roads will henceforth be constructed with concrete rather than asphalt, Works Minister Dave Umahi has said. The minister, a former Ebonyi State Governor, told reporters on Tuesday that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved his proposal.

8. As another flood crisis threatens to wreak havoc across the country, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed an immediate plan of action to mitigate its impact. A statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Mr Stanley Nkwocha, said President Tinubu also appointed Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, as chairman of the committee.

9. Four students of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), were on Monday night kidnapped by some armed men. The Students’ Union Government chairman, Comrade Oshafu Nuhu Abdulrahman who confirmed the incident, urged students to remain calm and join in prayers as efforts are in place to secure their release.

10. A 38-year-old man, Afeez Gbadamosi, was on Tuesday arraigned before the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence court by the Lagos State Government for allegedly sexually molesting his two underage sons who are between ages three and seven. Gbadamosi is facing four counts of sexual assault and indecent behaviour preferred against him by the state.
