1. The Federal Government, on Monday, denied reintroducing the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, amid the closure of many filling stations nationwide due to various challenges in the downstream oil sector. It also said the pockets of queues observed by motorists in petrol stations across the country stemmed from hiccups in product distribution from the South to the North, not a lack of supply.

2. A Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square on Monday convicted and sentenced a suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police, Drambi Vandi, who killed a Lagos lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, to death by hanging. Justice Ibironke Harrison sentenced him after finding him guilty of the murder of the pregnant lawyer.

3. The Katsina State Police Command on Monday said its operatives killed five suspected kidnappers between June 1 and September 30, 2023. It also disclosed that the operatives rescued 171 kidnapped persons during the period. The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Aliyu disclosed this on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Musa, at the police headquarters during the parade of some suspects.

4. The Lagos State Government has suspended airlifting of the second batch of intending pilgrims to Israel due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Some Christians from the state had gone for pilgrimage in Jerusalem and another set of pilgrims were scheduled to be airlifted to Israel on Tuesday, October 10.

5. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, has said the Federal Government has set a target of five million jobs for youths in five years through the N-Power scheme. She said the plan is to create a million jobs each year as a way of revamping the suspended N-Power programme.

6. Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Monday berated the European Union (EU) over its report on this year’s general election, especially the February 25 presidential poll. He said the report did not give the true position of the election but created a wrong impression on the minds of the electorate, especially in Rivers State.

7. The senator representing Enugu West Zone, Osita Ngwu, has said that the Southeast Senate Caucus will not relent in its quest for more ministerial slots for the region. Ngwu told reporters in Enugu that although President Bola Tinubu may have fulfilled the constitutional requirements by appointing a minister from each of the five states in the region, he will listen to the agitation of the senators for more slots.

8. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), yesterday, said the Federal Government would soon compel airlines to pay compensation for delayed and cancelled flights not caused by nature. He noted that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Act provides for such compensation.

9. Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, on Monday night, denied rumours making the rounds that he died. Gowon’s personal Media Aide, Adeyeye E. Ajayi said in a terse statement that the former military leader is not dead.

10. A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Yekini Nabena, has debunked the viral report that the Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and a former APC governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, David Lyon, are working against the APC governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva.
