1. Reports emerged on Saturday that lawmakers in the Green Chamber have started taking delivery of their Sports Utility Vehicles, SUV.

Similarly, legislators in the Red Chamber will receive the first batch of the SUVs this week. It was also gathered that the last tranche of the SUVs for use by the lawmakers would arrive before December.

2. The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has submitted a warrant of arrest and request to the Crown Prosecution Services of the United Kingdom for the urgent extradition of a former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC made the official request after an order by President Bola Tinubu.

3. In the aftermath of Thursday’s Supreme Court judgment, which affirmed the victory of President Bola Tinubu, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party have commenced moves to restructure the party, with plans to convene its 98th National Executive Committee meeting soon. The last NEC meeting of the party was convened by the sacked Chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, on September 8, 2022.

4. Adamawa State Governorship Electoral Petitions Tribunal on Saturday dismissed the petition filed by Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani against Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. In her judgement, the chairman of the tribunal, T. O. Uloho, dismissed the petition brought by Sen. Binani and affirmed the victory of Governor Umaru Fintiri, the declared winner of the March 18th governorship election in Adamawa.

5. Speedy trial by mobile courts will soon become a routine procedure as the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) endorses plans aimed at eradicating Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) in Nigeria, Minister for Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, has said. According to the Minister, very tough times now await all those involved in such practices as many states will soon begin the trial of offenders.

6. No fewer than 7.7 million Nigerian girls are expected to be vaccinated against cervical cancer in the first phase of rollout in 15 states and FCT. The country, with the support of Gavi and other partners, has procured six million doses for the rollout campaign. Another batch of eight million doses is expected before the end of December, according to Emily Kobayashi, Head of HOV Programme, Gavi.

7. The Federal Government on Saturday disclosed that comprehensive works involving the resurfacing and lighting of the Third Mainland Bridge will begin on Wednesday, November 1. This proposed three-month maintenance job is the first phase of the comprehensive repair works meant to secure the integrity as well as the aesthetics of the upper deck of the bridge.

8. Hours after the Supreme Court judgement upholding the victory of President Bola Tinubu, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Comrade Julius Abure, has sacked five of his key political aides. The termination of appointments was contained in a statement signed by National Secretary of the party, Malam Umar Farouk, in Abuja, on Saturday.

9. The Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party has hailed the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the outcome of the February 25, 2023, presidential election, in which President Bola Tinubu was declared winner. Spokesperson for the faction, Abayomi Arababmbi, in a statement in Abuja, on Saturday, congratulated Tinubu and begged him to be magnanimous in victory.

10. Human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana, SAN, has said that it is not ideal for the judiciary to decide winners of elections. In a TV interview on Saturday, Falana said determining winners of elections is an exclusive reserve of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
