Methodist Church Ordains Bishop Nkechi First Female Bishop In Nigeria

The Methodist Church of Nigeria has ordained Right Reverend Nkechi Nwosu as its first female bishop in the country.

NewsOnline reports that the Archbishop of Kaduna Diocese, the Most Reverend Joseph Nnonah, ordained Nwosu on Sunday at the Christ Methodist Cathedral Church North Central as the Bishop of Jos.

The service was to formally give effect to the decision of the 2022 biennial Conference where Nwosu was elected as the Bishop of Jos.

Giving her homily, Bishop Nwosu – the first female Bishop in a male-dominated denomination – said the ordination is a call to win more souls for God. She urged the congregation and fellow clergy to move out to the nation preaching the word of God for the salvation of the world.

Bishop Nwosu added that Nigeria holds a place in restoring the pride of Africa and called for all Christians to make decisive actions ahead of the presidential election.

“We must go out there and agree with God, do what God said we should do. By so doing, God will use us for anybody he will put on that seat to restore Nigeria to a place of pride in Africa and the world.”

Bishop Nwosu, however, officially commenced the spiritual activities as the Bishop of Jos Diocese, which she sees as a privilege in the spreading of the gospel without any prejudice.
