Lionel Messi refused a penalty in the Inter Miami vs. Orlando City game to help Josef Martinez score his first goal.

Newsonline Nigeria report that Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi declined to take a penalty during their 3-1 victory against Orlando City in the Leagues Cup. Despite Messi’s absence from the penalty spot, Inter Miami still managed to secure a win.

Lionel Messi has already netted five goals in his first three games for Inter Miami.

During the game against Orlando, Lionel Messi played alongside Josef Martinez, who had yet to score a goal for the club since joining.

Josef Martinez won a penalty early in the second half, and Lionel Messi decided to pass it over to him instead of taking it himself.

After picking up the ball, Josef Martinez successfully slotted it past Orlando City goalkeeper Pedro Gallese.

Lionel Messi scored two goals during the match.

According to the UK Mirror, Lionel Messi is Inter’s designated penalty taker. However, he knew how much a goal would mean to the team and Josef Martinez.
