Newsonline reports that Senator Hassan Nasiha disclosed that his peace meeting with the bandits made notorious bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, embrace the peace initiative of the Zamfara State government as part of efforts to end banditry.
The deputy governor disclosed this in a press conference organized by the Students’ Union of Medina University, on the security situation in Gusau, at the weekend in the state capital territory.
Hassan Nasiha noted that following the dialogue to broker peace between the Fulani and the Hausa in Birnin Magaji, Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas, there has been no clash between the two warring factions, thereby bringing relative peace.
He said the peace in the three local governments was possible following Bello Turji acceptance of the peace initiative of the state government.
Nasiha said the Bello Matawalle said it would not be a gun battle or a war, using whatever weapons between the bandits and the people. Therefore the need for meeting the two warring parties to find peace.
The deputy governor added that the Fulani camp claimed that the Hausas usually attacked and raped their women, killing the Fulani on their way to or returning from the market.
According to him, they also lamented that there is no school built for their children and that ignorance pushed them into banditry.
He expressed delight that Turji, who keyed into the amnesty programme of Governor Bello Matawalle, was now launching an offensive campaign against the terrorists in the areas to ensure peace and stability in the State.
