Geraldine Orok Ita has bagged a 7-year jail term over N127.6m fraud.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a Federal High Court in Calabar, Cross River state, has sentenced Dr. Geraldine Orok Ita to seven years in prison for defrauding N127,686,594.87.

The conviction was handed down by Justice Rosemary Oghoghorie, who found Ita guilty on 12 charges of forgery and fund diversion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The case, which began in 2019, arose from a complaint by Sharpnet Concept Limited and ROK Project Limited, who accused Ita of falsifying company documents, unlawfully removing directors, and misappropriating funds.

Investigations revealed that Ita had altered corporate records, manipulated share allocations, and diverted N45 million paid by the University of Calabar for a project undertaken by the companies.

Although Ita pleaded not guilty, she was convicted based on the compelling evidence presented by EFCC prosecutor Joshua Abolarin.
