FirstBank has partnered E1 Lagos GP to launch Nigeria’s First-Ever All-Electric Powerboat Racing Championship.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that First Bank of Nigeria Limited has announced its partnership with the organizers of the maiden edition of the E1 Lagos Grand Prix (GP), an all-electric powerboat racing championship scheduled to take place in Lagos between October 3 and 5, 2025.

The announcement was made during the E1 Lagos GP Stakeholder Immersion session held recently in Lagos. Speaking at the event, Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communication at FirstBank, said the bank’s involvement reflects its longstanding commitment to sports development, cultural promotion, and legacy-building initiatives across Nigeria.

“Our involvement in the E1 Lagos GP is about driving legacy and enabling the passions and aspirations that unite Nigerians. Sports have always been a force that connects us as a nation, and as a bank that has been in operation for over 131 years, we remain committed to platforms that inspire and elevate our people,” Ijabiyi stated.

He highlighted the bank’s history of supporting prestigious tournaments such as the Georgian Polo Cup, hosted for 105 years, and the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship, which has run for 64 years under FirstBank’s sponsorship. Through its First@Sports initiative, the bank continues to foster sporting excellence and community engagement.

The partnership also aligns with the bank’s DecemberIssaVybe initiative, a campaign that blends culture, entertainment, lifestyle, and festive celebration to create memorable customer experiences. As presenting partner, FirstBank promises to deliver world-class engagement opportunities to its customers and the wider public during the high-profile Lagos event.

Gbenga Omotoso, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, commended the initiative, describing it as a platform that will not only grow sports but also project Lagos’ vibrant culture, creative energy, and global relevance.

The Lagos GP will feature teams owned by international icons such as Tom Brady, LeBron James, Didier Drogba, Will Smith, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki, and Rafael Nadal, with the season finale slated for Miami, USA.
