FG to Extend Cash Transfers to 2.2 Million Households, N419 Billion Already Disbursed

FG has promised to extend cash transfers to 2.2 million households and N419 billion already disbursed.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the federal government has announced plans to extend cash transfers to 2.2 million households across Nigeria, following a disbursement of N419 billion under the current scheme.

Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Tanko Sununu, revealed this in an interview with Channels Television on Monday, stating that the next phase is expected to begin before the end of August 2025.

Sununu explained that the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO) will identify vulnerable Nigerians from the national social register, targeting households in the lowest income brackets.

He said, “In the next few days, before the end of August, we will reach out to 2.2 million households. This is part of a rapid conditional cash transfer designed to support the most vulnerable citizens.”

The minister further disclosed that 71 percent of the funds have already been distributed to the northern region, while 21 percent has reached the southern region. To date, the program has benefited five million Nigerians.
