Everton midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has been shortlisted for the Premier League’s Player of The Month award for September following his impressive performance for the Toffees.
Newsonline report that the 25-year-old Nigerian who is currently with Eagles preparing for their friendly against Algeria in Oran has been in superb form for the Toffees this season.
He has caught the eye in a new, deeper central-midfield position, helping Everton hold Liverpool to a goalless draw before setting up a goal against West Ham that gave the Toffees their first win of 2022/23. Iwobi’s performances put him in contention to win the award for the first time in his career.
According to Everton, the nomination is well derived for the 27-year-old, “IWOBINHO… @alexiwobi has been nominated for September’s @premierleague Player of the Month award. Well deserved, Alex!”
Speaking on Everton’s Youtube channel, the Nigerian admitted that he is enjoying his best time at Goodison park.
“I think this is my best moment.
“I feel like this is my most confident time at Everton and an enjoyable time.”
The Nigerian was also named in Alan Shearer’s Premier League player of the week.
Should Iwobi be named the Premier League Player of the Month, he’ll become only the fifth Nigerian to win the accolade after Austin Okocha, Osaze Odemwingie, Odion Ighalo and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Iwobi has made 190 EPl appearances scoring 15 goals and making 22 assists.
Meanwhile, the trio Antonio Conte, Gary O’Neil and Erik ten Hag are up for the Manager of the Month award.
All three coaches oversaw impressive results in September. Votes will be combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide the winner, to be revealed next week.
