NewsOnline reports that detectives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have been deployed around the country ahead of Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections.
This was disclosed by EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwajaren in a statement he issued on Friday.
Mr Uwajaren said that the teams headed by senior officers have met with other security agencies involved in election security as well as INEC officials.
“The teams led by senior officers began arriving at their assigned locations earlier today, March 17, with a number of them holding consultation with the other security agencies involved in election security and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.” The statement reads in part.
The commission had deployed its operatives at the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections which were held on February 25.
The elections were reportedly marred with several cases of violence, vote buying in several states, with thugs snatching ballot boxes and burning ballot papers and preventing the electorate from casting their votes for their preferred candidates in some polling units.
The EFCC announced the arrest of many persons in relation to vote trading including a lecturer with the Sarwuan Tarka University (formerly known as the University of Agriculture), Makurdi, Benue State, with the sum of N306,700 in various denominations stashed in his car.
