PDP has blasted Governors dumping party for APC, claiming that defections are fueled by greed, not ideology.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi, has condemned the recent wave of defections from the opposition party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as acts of greed and self-interest.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, Abdullahi said the defections would not derail the PDP’s mission to rescue Nigeria from what he called “an army of occupation masquerading as a democratic government.”

According to him, the political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections is no longer between the PDP and APC but between the ruling party and the Nigerian people.

“As we journey towards 2027, it’s not about PDP and APC anymore. It’s now APC against Nigerians,” Abdullahi declared.

He criticized governors elected under the PDP who are defecting to the APC, especially those nearing the end of their tenures, insisting there is no moral justification for their actions.

“It’s nothing other than greed, avarice, and selfishness on the part of those leaving,” he said. “You cannot find any compelling reason why a governor completing his second term, for instance in Bayelsa, would want to abandon the party that gave him a platform.”

The PDP spokesperson lamented the worsening condition of Nigerians under the APC-led administration, noting that the past decade, particularly the last two years has brought untold hardship, insecurity, and economic decline.

Abdullahi added that the defections could ultimately strengthen the PDP, saying the party would use its upcoming national convention to cleanse itself of “opportunistic elements” and emerge stronger for the 2027 political battle.

“To the best of the PDP, it is good riddance to bad rubbish. If we can weed out these elements before our convention next month, we will emerge more cohesive and better prepared to rebuild the country,” he stated.
