Tension has erupted at PDP National Headquarters as Factions clashed over parallel meetings.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that tension escalated on Monday at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja as two rival factions attempted to hold parallel meetings, resulting in chaos, gunshots, and heavy security presence.
The National Working Committee (NWC) elected in Ibadan, led by the Taminu Turaki faction, and the group loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, both scheduled separate meetings for the same day.
Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the pro-Wike faction, arrived at Wadata Plaza earlier with members of his group. Shortly after, the Turaki-led faction approached the party headquarters but was prevented from entering by security operatives.

Two governors managed to force their way into the premises, but attempts by other members to join them were met with resistance. Security personnel fired gunshots into the air and released teargas to disperse the crowd, triggering panic as people fled for safety.
Before the other faction’s arrival, Anyanwu had addressed journalists in his office, insisting that the heightened security presence was merely a routine measure to ensure order. He also said his faction was fully prepared for both the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.
The situation remains tense as party stakeholders brace for further developments.
