The Supreme Court has sacked Julius Abure as Labour Party Chairman.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Supreme Court has overturned a previous ruling by the Court of Appeal in Abuja that had recognised Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

In a unanimous decision, a five-member panel of the apex court said the Court of Appeal did not have the authority to decide who should lead the party.

The Supreme Court ruled that leadership issues within political parties are internal matters and should not be settled by the courts.

The ruling came after an appeal was filed by Senator Nenadi Usman and another party member. The Supreme Court agreed with their arguments and nullified the earlier judgment that favoured Abure. It also dismissed a counter-appeal from Abure’s supporters, calling it “unmeritorious.”

This decision has added more uncertainty to the Labour Party’s leadership, and now, the matter is expected to be resolved within the party itself, without interference from the courts.
