2025 Sallah Celebrations

Sultan of Sokoto has announced date for 2025 Sallah Celebrations.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced that Wednesday, May 28, 2025, will be the first day of Zulhijja 1446 AH.

This date marks the start of the last month in the Islamic calendar, which leads to the celebration of Eid al-Adha, also known as Eid Kabir.

The announcement followed the confirmed sighting of the new moon in different parts of the country.

With this declaration, Eid Kabir will be observed on Friday, June 6, 2025, as the 10th day of Zulhijja.

The Sultan made the announcement as the religious head of Muslims in Nigeria.

He used the opportunity to call on Muslims to pray for peace, progress, and better days for the country.

He also reminded the public of the need to care for one another, especially the poor, during the days leading to Eid.

Zulhijja is known as the month during which Muslims across the world perform the Hajj pilgrimage.

For those not going on the pilgrimage, it is also a time to fast, reflect, and prepare for the festival of Eid, which involves prayer and the sacrifice of animals in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion to God.

The Sultan asked religious leaders and members of the Muslim community to use this time to promote harmony, peaceful living, and kindness.

He mentioned that the challenges facing the country need not only effort from the government but also prayers and support from citizens.
