Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has named alleged Boko Haram sponsors in Nigeria.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has alleged that members of Nigeria’s political elite are responsible for fuelling the Boko Haram insurgency.

Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television on Monday, Kalu claimed that terrorism is being weaponised by certain individuals within the political class to undermine President Bola Tinubu, similar to what, he said, occurred during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The political class is behind Boko Haram. They are using terrorism as a tool to fight Tinubu, just like they did with past administrations,” he stated.

Pressed to elaborate on who he meant by “political class,” Kalu identified politicians, top civil servants, and influential businesspeople as the key actors.

“This is a political war,” he said. “Some of them aren’t motivated by money; they’re after power. They want to destroy the system just to seize control, and that’s not the right path to leadership.”

He further asserted that Nigeria’s ongoing insecurity is politically driven. “These individuals: politicians, businessmen, and civil servants, are not merely seeking financial gain. They’re orchestrating chaos to hijack political power,” he claimed.

Kalu’s remarks come in the wake of a deadly attack in Borno State, where suspected Boko Haram insurgents planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Guzamala Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of nine people.

His comments also follow a recent warning by the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, who said Nigerians are now living side by side with Boko Haram and bandits. The monarch made the statement during the 60th birthday celebration of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
