Senate has denies alleged clash between Akpabio and Bamidele.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Senate has firmly denied reports of a supposed clash between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele during a recent executive session, dismissing the claims as entirely unfounded.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, described the reports as baseless and a misrepresentation of normal legislative procedures.

“Our attention has been drawn to several media reports alleging a confrontation between the Senate President and the Senate Leader during an executive session on whether or not to proceed on annual recess,” the statement read. “These reports are completely false and misleading. They distort the essence of parliamentary tradition and practice.”

Adaramodu clarified that what was reported as a “clash” was, in fact, routine parliamentary debate—a standard feature of democratic legislative institutions across the world.

“Parliamentary democracy thrives on robust debate. Every bill, motion, or policy proposal is thoroughly scrutinised and debated in the Senate, in the interest of over 230 million Nigerians,” he explained.

He emphasised that disagreement or differing perspectives during deliberations should not be interpreted as personal conflict or disunity within the Senate leadership.

“In both plenary and committee sessions, discussions are often intense and detailed, but that is the nature of a functioning legislature. These engagements do not in any way indicate cracks or altercations among members of the leadership,” he added.

The Senate spokesman reaffirmed that the upper chamber remains united and committed to its legislative responsibilities, urging the public to disregard reports suggesting otherwise.
