Rabiu Kwankwaso has resigned from NNPP and announced immediate exit from party.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Kano State Governor and the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced his resignation from the party with immediate effect.
Kwankwaso disclosed this in a press statement dated March 29, 2026, stating that his decision was driven by the need for a strategic political realignment amid the evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s political landscape.
The former governor expressed appreciation to the NNPP for the opportunity to serve as its National Leader and presidential candidate during the 2023 Nigerian presidential election, noting that leaving the party was not an easy decision.

According to him, the current direction of national politics requires aligning with a political platform that offers a stronger opportunity to pursue meaningful national change.
“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect,” the statement read.
