NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has decorated the newly appointed Service Chiefs with their official ranks in a ceremony currently taking place at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The event comes after the National Assembly screened and confirmed the Service Chiefs earlier this week, following their appointment by the President last Friday.

In the new security leadership structure, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, formerly Chief of Army Staff, now assumes the position of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), succeeding Gen. Christopher Musa.

Others include:

  • Major General Wahidi Shaibu – Chief of Army Staff (COAS)

  • Air Vice Marshal Kevin Aneke – Chief of Air Staff (CAS)

  • Rear Admiral Idi Abbas – Chief of Naval Staff (CNS)

  • Major General Emmanuel A. P. Undiendeye – Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) (retained position)

According to sources, the new CDS, Lt. Gen. Oluyede, will be decorated with the rank of General, while Maj. Gen. Shaibu will be promoted to Lieutenant General. Similarly, Rear Admiral Abbas will be elevated to Admiral, and Air Vice Marshal Aneke to Air Marshal.

It is also expected that Maj. Gen. Undiendeye, who retains his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence, may be elevated to the rank of Lieutenant General in recognition of his continued service.

The ceremony underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture amid ongoing national security challenges.
