NewsOnline Nigeria reports that in a dramatic move, Kenyan President William Ruto has today, 11 July, yielded to one of the critical demands of mainly youthful protesters by dismissing all cabinet secretaries and the attorney general, leaving behind the deputy president and the prime cabinet secretary.
Generation Z, Kenya’s now politically awakened generation who entered adulthood in recent years to find few jobs and a high cost of living, cemented its place in national politics after three weeks of nationwide demonstrations against tax hikes Ruto said would shore up revenues to pay off $80 billion in domestic and international debt.
Despite the government removing some of the most controversial International Monetary Fund-backed tax hikes, Kenyans demanded Ruto scrap the proposed 2024 finance bill and called on him to resign.
