President Mahama has appointed Ambassador in latest diplomatic appointments.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President John Dramani Mahama has announced a fresh wave of diplomatic appointments, with the spotlight on the return of veteran diplomat and former NDC National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Said Sinare, who has been named Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

The appointment, confirmed in a presidential letter dated July 21, marks a strategic diplomatic reshuffle that includes eight new ambassadorial postings to key global hubs such as South Korea, Italy, and Kenya. However, Sinare’s reassignment to Riyadh is drawing the most attention, given Saudi Arabia’s increasing relevance to Ghana’s economic and geopolitical interests.

A senior Foreign Ministry official described the move as a calculated decision:

“Sinare isn’t just being sent to Saudi Arabia; he’s going as Ghana’s lead negotiator in one of our most critical bilateral partnerships. From Hajj logistics and oil diplomacy to infrastructure financing, Riyadh plays a pivotal role.”

Sinare is no stranger to Gulf diplomacy, having previously served as Ghana’s envoy to both Saudi Arabia and Egypt. His extensive experience and established connections across the Arab world are expected to be key assets as Ghana pursues deeper economic ties with the Middle East.

Observers say the decision reflects Mahama’s intention to professionalize Ghana’s foreign service by bringing in seasoned diplomats with a track record of delivering results.

“This is a shift back to diplomacy driven by competence and strategic value,” said Prof. Nana Akosua Ankomah, an international relations expert at the University of Ghana. “Mahama is clearly prioritizing proven expertise over political loyalty.”

The NDC leadership has lauded the appointment, with party officials calling Sinare “the right man at the right time” to enhance Ghana’s engagement with the Gulf region. His previous tenure was credited with helping facilitate major Saudi investments in Ghana’s energy infrastructure.

The full list of new ambassadors is expected to be released by the Foreign Affairs Ministry in the coming days.

Accreditation processes are already underway, with diplomatic sources indicating that the new envoys could assume their posts within weeks.

For Sinare, the appointment is both a return and a renewed mandate. For Ghana, it signals a bold step toward revitalizing international partnerships in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
