PENGASSAN has suspended nationwide strike after FG brokered truce with Dangote Refinery.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike following a compromise reached with Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical through federal government mediation.

PENGASSAN President, Comrade Festus Osifo, confirmed the development in Abuja on Wednesday, stressing that the decision was made out of respect for national institutions and the government’s intervention efforts.

However, Osifo cautioned that the union remains dissatisfied with parts of the federal government’s communique on the matter. He warned that PENGASSAN would resume industrial action without notice if Dangote Refinery fails to honour the agreement.

“We still suspect Dangote may not keep faith with the terms, but we are giving government the benefit of the doubt. Should there be any breach, we will immediately resume the suspended action without notice,” Osifo declared.

Talks between PENGASSAN, Dangote Group, and government officials initially broke down on Monday after refinery management rejected calls to reinstate disengaged workers. But after intensive negotiations that stretched into the early hours of Tuesday, a truce was finally secured.

Key government figures involved in the mediation included the National Security Adviser, the Director-General of the DSS, the Minister of Labour and Employment, the Minister of Finance, and senior officials of the Petroleum Ministry.
