PDP has knocked President Tinubu over a deadly stampede for food across states and FCT in Nigeria.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the recent food stampedes in various states as a grim testament to the rising poverty, hunger, and desperation among Nigerians under the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, laid the blame for the tragedies on what he called the “overtly insensitive, corrupt, and directionless APC government.”

The statement lamented the loss of about 60 lives, including children, in separate stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as desperate citizens struggled for food amid worsening hunger and poverty.

“The PDP is devastated that the APC-led administration has wrecked our once-thriving economy and pushed millions of Nigerians into abject poverty. Many citizens can no longer afford daily meals, leading to rising cases of suicide, dangerous migration attempts, and desperate fights for basic survival,” Ologunagba said.

He further decried the paradox of Nigeria’s abundant resources juxtaposed with the harrowing reality of citizens dying in stampedes for food, calling it evidence of “a party of political vampires and buccaneers” who lack empathy for human life.

Ologunagba criticized the APC for false claims of economic progress and food sufficiency while failing to make meaningful investments in agriculture and food production. He also blamed the government for ignoring repeated calls by the PDP and concerned Nigerians to reconsider policies such as the abrupt increase in fuel prices and the unstructured floating of the naira.

“Rather than deploying resources for the people’s welfare, APC leaders are busy looting public funds through budget padding, contract inflation, palliative racketeering, and phony programs that offer no real benefits to Nigerians,” he added.

The PDP demanded immediate action from the federal government, including a review of “suffocating economic and tax policies” to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians and prevent further tragedies.

The party commiserated with Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State over the tragic loss of lives, praising the governor’s swift response in providing medical assistance to victims.

Additionally, the PDP extended condolences to the families affected by the stampedes in Anambra and Abuja, urging a thorough investigation into the incidents to prevent future occurrences.

The statement concluded with prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased and a speedy recovery for those injured.
