National Assembly has shut down and declared sit-at-home for workers over protests.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that less than 24 hours into the nationwide protests against bad governance, hardship and hunger, the National Assembly (NASS) is set to shut down.

In a memo from the federal parliament, several security measures were detailed to ensure the safety of legislative workers and the NASS Complex.

The memo signed by National Assembly Legislative Aides’ Forum (NASSLAF) PRO, Toyo Jimmy stated that only NASS staff, legislative aides, and essential service workers will be allowed into the NASS Complex.

Construction activities will be paused, and site workers will not have access to the premises.

There will be a heavy presence of security personnel around the complex to maintain order.

To enter the NASS Complex, individuals must present a valid identification card.

Aides without a Letter of Appointment or Temporary ID Card will not be permitted entry.

Furthermore, aides are advised not to bring visitors to the National Assembly during this period, and members are encouraged to limit the number of visitors.

Access to the National Assembly will be restricted to the main gate.

Aides are urged to cooperate with the Sergeant at Arms and security agents during security checks.

For the first ten days of the protests, aides may choose not to come to work if they feel it is unsafe.

NASSLAF and PASAN buses will not be operating during this initial period.

Aides are also advised to be vigilant about their surroundings and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
