Minister Wike has confimed Governor Fubara’s return date in Rivers State.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed optimism that the state of emergency in Rivers State will come to an end on September 18.

Wike made the statement after casting his vote in the ongoing local government election in Rivers State. He noted that with the political crisis between Governor Sim Fubara, the House of Assembly members, and Wike himself now largely settled, the coast is clear for the state of emergency to be lifted.

President Bola Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly for six months, and appointing Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as Sole Administrator.

Wike said:

“As far as we are concerned, this election is peaceful, people are trooping out, and at the end of the day, the election has been conducted successfully and peacefully. By September 18, the state of emergency will expire, and the state assembly will return to its duties.”

He further assured that the local government election was proceeding without incident and affirmed that with the expiration of the state of emergency, both the state and local government levels would resume normal governance.

“The coast is clear for the state of emergency to be lifted, as the state government has its representative, and the local government has its representatives, so we are good to go,” Wike added.
