Military have arrested South-South MD and raided Timipre Sylva’s home over alleged coup plot against Tinubu.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that military investigators have detained the Managing Director of a Federal Government agency in Nigeria’s South-South region over alleged links to a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.

According to two top intelligence sources, the MD was arrested after allegedly transferring a huge sum of money to former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, who has been fingered as one of the financiers of the alleged coup attempt.

“The MD (name withheld) transferred a large amount to Sylva. Investigators believe the funds were meant to finance the coup. He is currently being interrogated,” a security source confirmed.

Investigators reportedly raided Sylva’s Abuja residence on Saturday, arresting his younger brother Paga Sylva, who serves as his Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs, alongside his driver.

Sylva, a former Bayelsa State governor and APC chieftain, was said to be outside the country during the raid.

Sources claim he suspended his planned return to Nigeria after learning of the arrest of key coup suspects.

Military authorities, including the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen Markus Kangye, and the Director of Defence Information, Brig-Gen Tukur Gusau, have yet to comment on the development.

Earlier, on October 4, Gusau confirmed that 16 military officers were being detained over breaches of discipline and service regulations. However, reports from SaharaReporters allege that the detained officers, ranging from Captains to Brigadier Generals were actually arrested for plotting to overthrow the Tinubu administration.

Security sources say investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the alleged coup financing network.
