According to sources, the former president died in a private clinic in London, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.

Buhari, a retired Major General, first ruled Nigeria as a military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 following a coup. He later returned to power through democratic elections, serving as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023.

His presidency was marked by a strong anti-corruption campaign, a focus on infrastructure development, and a controversial but determined approach to national security challenges, including the fight against Boko Haram and other insurgent groups.

Though his administration faced criticism over human rights, economic management, and growing insecurity, Buhari remained a highly influential figure in Nigerian politics, especially among his northern base and within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
