EFCC has officially summoned El-Rufai after failed arrest attempt.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, is scheduled to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, the anti-graft agency has confirmed.
The development follows a reported attempt by security operatives to arrest El-Rufai at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday shortly after his arrival from Cairo, Egypt, on Egypt Air flight MS 877.

El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Esop Akpan, disclosed that the EFCC had delivered an invitation to the former governor’s residence in December 2025 while he was abroad for medical treatment and rest.
According to counsel, El-Rufai’s legal team has been in communication with the anti-graft agency and has assured authorities of his readiness to comply with the invitation upon his return to Nigeria.
Further details are expected as the scheduled appearance draws near.
