Dino Melaye has officially dumped PDP and joined ADC.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Kogi West senator and ex-governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in his political career ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Melaye announced his resignation in a letter dated July 4, 2025, which he shared publicly via his official (formerly Twitter) account.

The letter was addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. In the letter, Melaye said his decision to leave the PDP was based on his concerns about the party’s inability to address Nigeria’s growing political instability and leadership failures.

He wrote, “I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement. This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.”

The former lawmaker, who once served as a key figure in the PDP and was its flagbearer in the last Kogi State gubernatorial election, expressed deep disappointment with the direction of the party. According to him, the PDP no longer embodies the principles and vision that initially attracted him. “Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the party or lend my support to her agenda,” he added.

Shortly after his resignation, Melaye officially joined the African Democratic Congress, a coalition-led political party that has recently gained attention for attracting several prominent figures. In a video posted online, Melaye was seen receiving his ADC membership card, symbolizing his full integration into the party.

The development comes amid growing political realignments as Nigeria gradually approaches the 2027 elections. Melaye’s defection is expected to spark conversations within political circles, especially as he remains a high-profile figure with strong grassroots support in Kogi State and national recognition.

His move to the ADC could potentially bolster the party’s presence and influence, especially if other disenchanted PDP members decide to follow suit. Meanwhile, political analysts are closely watching how this shift will affect the PDP’s internal structure and future strategy.
