Dethroned Emir Of Gaya Reinstated

The dethroned Emir of Gaya has been reinstated as the Kano Governor appoints three new Emirs.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the appointment of the second-class emirs of Gaya, Karaye and Rano Emirates.

This Nigeria news platform understands that the Director General of Media and Publicity to the governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement made available to journalists in Kano.

This comes less than 24 hours after Yusuf signed the bill to create second-class emirates in Kano State into law.

The newly appointed emirs include the deposed emir of Gaya, Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, who was reinstated as emir of Gaya.

Muhammad Maharaz Karaye was appointed as the Emir of Karaye, and Muhammad Isa Umar as the Emir of Rano.

Karaye, until his appointment, was the District Head of Rogo, while Umar was the district head of Bunkure.

Governor Yusuf congratulated the newly appointed emirs and enjoined them to be the custodians of the people’s culture, peace and unity in their respective Emirates.

The statement said all the appointments were with immediate effect.

Yusuf Signs Bill Creating 2nd Class Emirates In Kano State Into Law

Meanwhile, Yusuf has signed the Kano State Emirate Council Establishment Bill 2024 into law.

The Governor signed the bill on Tuesday after it was passed by the State House of Assembly and transmitted to him.

NewsOnline Nigeria reported earlier that the Kano State House of Assembly passed the Kano State Emirates Council Establishment Bill 2024 after the bill scaled third reading on Tuesday.

The new law establishes second-class Emirate Councils in Rano, Gaya, and Karaye, each responsible for specific local government areas, with Kano as a first-class emirate.

Speaking after the signing, Governor Yusuf said the law aims to bridge the gap between the grassroots and the government while sustaining the rich cultural values and norms of the people.
