APC Secures Two-Third Majority in House of Representatives

Five members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the South East and one lawmaker from the Labour Party (LP) in Plateau State announced their defection to the ruling APC.

APC has secured two-third majority in House of Representatives as six opposition Lawmakers defect.

NewsOnline  Nigeria reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a two-third majority in the House of Representatives following the defection of six lawmakers from opposition parties during Thursday’s plenary session.

Five members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the South East and one lawmaker from the Labour Party (LP) in Plateau State announced their defection to the ruling APC.

Those who switched parties are Daniel Asama Ado (Plateau), Chidi Mark Obetta (Enugu), Phillips Anayo Owuegbu (Enugu), Nnaji Nnolim (Enugu), Denis Agbo (Enugu), and Matthew Nwogu (Imo).

With their defection, the APC’s strength in the House has now risen to 242 members, while the PDP is left with 74 lawmakers.

In their separate defection letters read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, the lawmakers cited persistent leadership crises within the PDP and LP as the main reason for leaving their parties.

The defection ceremony was witnessed by prominent figures, including APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, and former Minister of Defence Fedelia Njeze.
