All Progressive Congress, APC, North-West political heavyweights have insisted that the position of the vice-presidential candidate must be from their region.

Newsonline reports that governors, ex-governors, senators, ministers, and other top wigs of the ruling APC met in Abuja to discuss issues surrounding the running mate for Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate.

The politicians after their meeting stated that denying North-West the position of the running mate will amount to ingratitude by the ruling party following that in the 2015 and 2019 general elections, the region gave the ruling APC the winning votes.

The politicians in the communiqué released after their meeting stated that no political party will win an election without the bulk of votes from the region.

Part of the communiqué signed by APC zonal vice-chairman, North-West, Salihu Mohammed Lukman, read: “The meeting welcomed the initiative to commence this consultative meeting as vital for strengthening the APC in the North West and improving leadership engagements and cohesion within the zone.

“The zonal meeting welcomed the successful conclusion of primaries at the state and national levels. Participants acknowledged the challenges facing some state chapters of the party and resolved to promote efforts at reconciliation as an urgent priority.

“The meeting noted the contribution of the North West to the emergence and growth of the APC and its electoral viability, with the North West providing about 39% of the votes the APC recorded in the 2019 and 2015 presidential elections.

“Therefore, the zone resolved to aggregate its interests and vital concerns and engage accordingly with the presidential candidate of the party.”

Lukman said the APC governors, governorship candidates, and ministers from the states in the zone were in attendance.

The ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, has been in search of a vice-presidential candidate since it finished it primary election that produced a former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
