APC Blasts Obasanjo Over Tinubu ‘Incompetence’ Remark, Labels Ex-President Hypocrite

APC has blasted Obasanjo over Tinubu ‘incompetence’ remark and labelled ex-president hypocrite.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his claim that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is competing with that of the late Muhammadu Buhari in incompetence.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, described Obasanjo’s remark as “laughable and disgracefully hypocritical,” insisting that the former president lacked the moral authority to judge any leader.

Obasanjo had made the comment in his new book, Nigeria: Past and Future, where he reviewed past Nigerian leaders and described Buhari’s regime as the “worst civil administration” in the nation’s history, while adding that Tinubu’s government appeared to be “competing with it.”

But Lagos APC strongly disagreed, accusing Obasanjo of arrogance, squandered opportunities, and failed leadership during his own tenure.

“It is ironic that a man whose time in office is remembered more for political arrogance, squandered opportunities, and failed democratic subversion would have the audacity to label anyone incompetent,” the party stated.

Oladejo further defended Tinubu’s reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange liberalisation, and anti-inefficiency measures, stressing that these were bold steps past leaders such as Obasanjo “either broke or ignored.”

The APC also accused the former president of presiding over one of the most corrupt governments in Nigeria’s history, citing alleged scandals in the power sector, the controversial third-term agenda, and ballooning foreign debt despite debt relief claims.

“Obasanjo’s bitterness is well-known. He cannot control this government, and he resents that Nigeria has moved on from his brand of egocentric, do-or-die politics,” Oladejo said.

Reiterating its support for Tinubu, the Lagos APC insisted that the president was focused on reforms, recovery, and renewal not competing with past leaders.

“If Nigeria is still recovering from years of structural rot, Obasanjo bears a huge chunk of the blame. The mess didn’t start with Buhari, and it certainly isn’t being deepened by Tinubu it started long before, under the watch of men who now pretend to be saints,” the statement added.
