Newsonline reports that the latest move by Akeredolu is aimed at giving the former governor of Lagos State, Tinubu, a good ground in the South-South and particularly Rivers State.
Governor Akeredolu on Thursday said it would be unfair for a Northerner to replace President Muhammadu Buhari for another eight years. He called on Nigerians to vote for Bola Tinubu, stating it is the turn of the South to produce the president of the country for the next eight years.
Akeredolu stated this while playing host to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who was in Akure for the presentation of Staff of Office to the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, as Olu of Ilu Abo in Akure North Local Government Area.
The governor said that no loyalist of the All Progressives Congress (APC) can forget the principal role of Amaechi as the Director-General of the party’s presidential campaign in 2015.
According to him, “Thank you for coming. Chief Falae has served this country creditably, and we in Ondo State are very proud of him. He left the bank and became the Minister for Finance, and also served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). So he has done his best, and up till now, when he is less busy he will find time to advise us.”
On his part, the former Rivers State governor, who also contested against Tinubu in the June APC presidential primary said during his campaign for presidency Olu Falae was very instrumental.
Amaechi said: “Because of my campaign for the presidency, I knew Chief Olu Falae. We visited his house in Akure. So I came to visit Chief Olu Falae whom you have kindly recognized with the panel report.”
The former Transportation Minister further thanked Akeredolu for his quality governance in Ondo State. Amaechi added that the recognition given to Olu Falae was deserving.
Tinubu and Amaechi lost love after the APC presidential primary election. Amaechi like most aspirants from the South East and South-South region, political analysts said, had hoped that the party leadership would have zoned the presidency to the two regions for fairness and equity.
Since Tinubu’s victory, Amaechi and South East APC stalwarts have remained outside the campaign of the former Lagos State governor.
