NewsOnline Nigeria reports that France captain Kylian Mbappé has named Spain as one of the strongest favourites to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 26-year-old forward, who scored in France’s 3–0 victory over Azerbaijan in Friday’s World Cup qualifier, praised the reigning European champions for their quality and consistency.

Despite France being widely regarded as frontrunners for the title, Mbappé believes Spain have what it takes to go all the way next year.

“For me, Spain are the best team in Europe right now,” Mbappé said. “But the World Cup is a different stage.”

The French forward, who lifted the World Cup in 2018 and finished as runner-up in 2022 after a dramatic final against Lionel Messi’s Argentina, noted that anything can happen when it comes to football’s biggest tournament.
