The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari that the Southeast would become more volatile with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu’s continued incarceration.
Newsonline reports that he also identified politicians as those responsible for Kanu’s continued incarceration.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele said the agitators are planning to cause a crisis during the election, and now is the best time to avoid the crisis that is being planned to mar the 2023 general elections.
The cleric urged the government not to underrate the agitators to avoid making errors that will disrupt the peace of the nation, PM News reported.
He said: “The more Nnamdi Kanu stays in prison, the more volatile the southeast zone becomes.
“If they want peace in the zone, politicians behind his travails should withdraw.
“The government should stop locking him behind bars. If he is guilty, let him be sentenced; if he is not, let him be set free, that’s the criteria for peace.’’
Recall that Kanu had been locked up since he was arrested in June last year in Kenya. Upon his arrest, he was repatriated to Nigeria.
Following his return to Nigeria, an Appeal Court in Abuja acquitted and discharged Kanu of all terrorism charges.
Despite the judgment, the Nigerian government refused to release the IPOB leader.
The lead counsel of Nnamdi Kanu, Mike Ozekhome, on Friday, warned against the continued detention of the Biafra agitator.
Ozekhome said Nigeria would disintegrate if Kanu is not released from custody soon despite courts.
He issued the warning during a meeting with Igbo leaders in Atlanta, the United States of America, US.
Ozekhome assured that releasing Kanu would not escalate insecurity in the southeast.
He maintained that they are presently at the Supreme Court and that it will right the wrong because nobody will intimidate the Supreme court.
He said that the Supreme court will have to do something so that Nigeria will not disintegrate.
