One month after its presidential primary election, which was won by Atiku Abubakar, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and stakeholders are yet to get through it. This is Ayodele Fayose maintained that the PDP constitution provided for a rotational presidency.

Newsonline reports that former governor of Ekiti State, Fayose Ayodele said it was sad that the opposition PDP did not adhere to the party’s constitution in their last presidential primary.

The former governor of Ekiti State had lost his state for the second time to the now ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in the concluded gubernatorial election.

The heavy defeat of PDP coming third was also blamed by political observers as an expression of displeasure to the PDP National Working Committee by PDP stakeholders in Ekiti for failing to adhere to the rotational provision of the party’s constitution.

Ayodele Fayose in a statement maintained that the party’s constitution recognized rotation of the post of presidency along the political division of the country to ensure all parts of the country are carried along.

Fayose said, “The PDP Constitution provides for a rotational Presidency. Section 3(c) provides that the Party shall pursue its aims and objectives by “adhering to the policy of the rotation and zoning of Party and  Public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice, and fairness.”

Newsonline had reported that before the PDP presidential election, Southern politicians and socio-political groups were calling for a Southern presidency, arguing that the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari is from the North. This they argued will guarantee equity and fairness.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is facing the Osun election, come July 16, will swords be put back to sheaths to ensure victory.

A repeat of the loss in Osun State, as it happened in the Ekiti State election will spell doom for the opposition party that ruled Nigeria from 1999 to 2015.
