Governor Soludo

The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, has been on fire since the release of his statement on Monday that the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, knows he ‘will not win and won’t win’ the 2023 election.

Newsonline reports that Peter Obi supporters from all tribes and religions of the country and in the diaspora have taken to both traditional and social media to condemn what they described as a fight against the wish of the youthful Nigerians who want the presidency of the former governor of Anambra state.

According to Soludo his criticism and statement that the Labour Party presidential candidate will not win the 2023 election arose from his not wanting to seat on the fence and standing for truth.

Soludo had on national television said the savings and investment Obi made with Anambra State money were worth next to nothing.

Reacting to his statement which he published on his social media account including Twitter, Peter Obi supporters, mostly youths said Soludo’s statement was a clear testament that the Labour Party presidential candidate was a national icon and not a regional politician.

Obi supporters added that Nigerian old politicians see him as a threat because of his leadership qualities which endeared him to youths who are looking for a new Nigeria.

Popular Christian musician, Frank Edwards, in reaction to Soludo’s statement said, “There are people who don’t even care about their parents, siblings, etc. . Not to talk of Nigerian. That explains why Once you give such a person money to flex for 3 days they will support rubbish! They are not thinking long-term!”

Aisha Yesufu, an internationally recognized human rights activist and campaigner for good governance, in her post on Twitter, wrote, “The fact that corrupt politicians are angry at the candidacy of Peter Obi inspires me to do more. The people that have been making $1.4bn every two months from oil theft will not want someone that will end it & close off their conduit pipes.”

Aisha asked the question to Soludo, “You expected Peter Obi to remain in APGA? To remain as local champion?” She added, “I love how the politicians are coming out with their disdain of Peter Obi’s candidacy. It will help the citizens stay focused on the job of getting him into Aso villa instead of relaxing thinking the job is all done. Bring it on! Plan as you have never planned before.”

Reacting to Soludo’s statement that he has given Peter Obi a level playing ground to campaign in the state, which he did not give to other politicians as governor of Anambra between 2006-2014, Rinu Oduala called Soludo a liar.

Soludo in part wrote, “We have shown him tremendous goodwill—which he did not extend to the same Labour Party when he was Governor (Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, as LP governorship candidate in 2013 was denied the use of Ekwueme Square for his rallies).”

In a quick reaction, Rinu, an #Endsars activist and campaigner against police brutality reacted, “A whole governor lying on what has been debunked severally?” She added a question, “What exactly did Peter Obi steal from the Igbo political class?”
